On Saturday 29 January 2022 at 09:03 UTC, a ACK flood targeted a video streaming customer in the UK. The attack peaked at 214.8 Gbps and lasted 104 minutes. Traffic originated from 2607 autonomous systems in 56 countries, predominantly a Mirai-derived IoT botnet.

Timeline

The attack was preceded by a competitor’s product launch. Edge packet filters identified the flood by source port and payload signature and dropped it at line rate across 40 points of presence.
