On Wednesday 18 December 2024 at 01:01 UTC, a GRE flood targeted a sports betting customer in Central Europe. The attack peaked at 47.2 Gbps and lasted 125 minutes. Traffic originated from 3328 autonomous systems in 55 countries, predominantly compromised cloud VMs.

Recommendations

  • Add a dedicated rate limit for the targeted route.
  • Keep origin IPs out of public DNS history.
  • Enable authenticated origin pulls.
